Tea in India is a diverse beverage. Every region makes its chai varieties. Tea has been around for almost 5,000 years. There are over 3,000 varieties of tea on the market. Tea is the most popular beverage in the world. It has a cultural and historical significance that cannot be matched.

China is where tea got its origins. This tale went back to ancient China more than 5000 years ago. An Emperor named Shen Nung was a herbalist during this time. Unintentionally, a servant of the Emperor made an herbal mixture when the leaves from a wild tree were dropped into boiling water. Because of the pleasant smell, the Emperor was eager to learn everything about this herbal mixture. That is how tea was created. Tea has been a delicious drink and herbal tonic in China for many centuries. There are also many other medicinal uses.

The Chinese Emperor discovered the first tea, but many countries contributed to the global tea harvest. China was the origin of the first tea that was used in England. Indian tea was first sold in London in 1823.

India is the world’s largest tea producer. The silk caravans brought it to India centuries ago. However, Camellia Sinensis, a native Indian plant, grew in the wild long after its actual value was discovered. The leaves were sometimes used by Native Indians as part of their diet but primarily for their medicinal properties.

How did tea get its name in India?

Robert Kyd, a British botanist, experimented with tea cultivation in India using seeds from a consignment believed to have come from China. A few decades later, Robert Bruce discovered that tea plants could be grown wild in the Upper Brahmaputra valley. The first Assam tea was exported to England in May 1823.

In the 1840s, India’s tea industry began to develop. Tea Origin”>Darjeeling, and Kangra valley. Tea plantations in Darjeeling were officially established in 1841 after successful testing. The tea industry in India flourished after the end of the British era.

The fourth-largest town is Dibrugarh, the Tea City of India. This city is located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Upper Assam, India. Nearly half of India’s Assam Tea is produced in this city.
