Assam tea – A beginner’s guide

Tea is the most popular beverage worldwide, after water. Assam tea is an excellent choice if you prefer strong black teas. Assam is a name that means one without equal. This meaning makes Assam teas a worthy alternative. Some of the most highly sought-after teas are produced in Assam, North India. It is home to India’s largest tea plantation and the oldest plantation in the world. The plantation dates back to 1836. Assam black Tea is well-known for its rich, malty taste and potential health benefits. Due to its strong taste and high amount of caffeine, it is one of the most loved teas in the world.

Assam is the world’s largest tea-producing region. Assam tea, a black tea, is made from Camellia Sinensis tea leaves and is found in high altitudes (between 1,500 and 2,200 meters) in Assam. Nearly 600 million Kg are produced each year by Assam’s tea producers. These large tea plantations produce mass-market teas. The rest of the tea gardens are focused on specialty and artisan teas. Assam teas have naturally high levels of caffeine. Assam teas are often promoted as breakfast teas.

Black tea’s main distinguishing factor is its final firing stage. This makes the tea more robust and gives it a richer taste. Six steps are required to get a distinctive dark brown color and intense flavor. After tea leaves are harvested and withered, they undergo an oxidation process to expose them to oxygen in a controlled-temperature environment for a certain period. The chemical changes in tea leaves are stimulated by this oxidation process, giving Assam tea its unique color and flavor.

Types Of Assam Tea:

Tea Origin”>Assam tea is usually harvested four times a year, with the first and second harvests being the best. There are two main types of tea available: orthodox and CTC. Orthodox Assam Tea can be classified into several categories depending on the type of leaf.

Orthodox tea is made with traditional methods and is considered of higher quality than regular tea. The final quality of the tea depends on many factors, including soil, climate, leaf types, harvesting times, processing methods, and other factors.

Tea Origin”>CTC tea is made using a different method, which is not as time-consuming and does not produce as wide varieties. Unlike orthodox tea, where only sure leaves are allowed to enter, the leaves are cut into smaller pieces, and the entire leaf is used in the production process.

Whole-leaf CTC is not a term. CTC can be broken into two types: dust and whole-leaf CTC. This refers to the excess powder from whole-leaf processing. A good English Breakfast is made with a broken leaf.
